Creative economy


In Vaucluse, the creative economy already represents over 5 000 jobs in national heritage, live theater and the digital industry. The Provence region has a long history of attracting creators and artists who find there a unique lifestyle, as well as favorable infrastructures, equipment and work premises. Beyond an undeniable “local magic”, the creation of specialized training and research activities has enabled support for the development of projects and enterprises.

Local heritage value creation :
Based on our unique local heritage, many value creation activities have developed, including the restoration of heritage buildings, multimedia, museology, E-tourism, etc…

Theater and the performing arts :
Beyond the major festivals, twenty permanent Vaucluse structures and institutions (theater, music, opera, foundations…) concentrate several hundred enterprises, creators, artists and technicians working on performing arts engineering.

Digital creation :
Multimedia, video games, films, graphic arts, recording studios…all are enriching the creative economy of Vaucluse.

SCS Solutions Communicantes Sécurisées – Secured Communicating Solutions
The SCS world competitiveness center is recognized as the best in the field of Secured Communicating Solutions, covering the entire value chain of ICT activities, from silicon through to implementation: Microelectronics, Telecommunications, Software.

Cultural & National Heritage Industries center (ICP)
The Cultural & National Heritage Industries center is a tool for economic development serving the region and its members. It groups about a hundred players specialized in all the activities of value creation, conservation, restoration, preservation, transmission or diffusion for our heritage – buildings, natural sites, culture and traditions.

Le PRIMI : The Mediterranean Transmedia Center (PRIMI) is a cluster grouping professionals from regional activities in audiovisual and films, animation, video games, Internet and multimedia

The University of Avignon et des pays du Vaucluse
Founded more than 700 years ago, today the university welcomes over 7 500 students in premises dedicated to Teaching and Research which are considered among the most beautiful in France.
Internationally recognized for its courses: Sciences of Information and Communication, Cultural Development Strategy, Cultural Mediation, digital cultures for performing arts, for national heritage, museums and cultural tourism.

The AGORANTIC Federating Structure for Research :
“Culture, national heritage and digital companies”
AGORANTIC is the leading structure in France for culture and the digital industry, and enables researchers to provide a greater understanding of cultural and national heritage implementations for innovative digital tools. It enables basic and applied research with players in the region’s creative economy.
Its work is based on five research fields: Cultures and virtual societies - Social and cultural networks on the Web – Territorial intelligence by internet - Mobility, intelligent transport and ICT – Building a scientific cross-expertise

LIA: the Avignon IT Laboratory
The Laboratory’s activities are organized around three main themes: Language, Networks and Operational Research.

Language :
Activities in the fields of automatic language processing, Man-machine dialog, Vocal interactions

Operational Research and optimization:
Application of OR methods and algorithms to the optimization of resources in various contexts, including networks and the automatic processing of written and oral natural language.

Networks :
Application of work on network architectures and protocols to develop security and cellular phone systems.



The role of French Tech is to encourage the emergence of innovative start-ups. It reinforces cohesion among different local players who will associate to help these young companies to develop, thus generating economic value and employment.

The Bridge :

The Bridge is the European acceleration and development platform of innovative digital solutions around events, cultural content, tourism and mobility.
Based on 9 festivals in the Provence region (Vaucluse, Gard, Bouches-du-Rhône) which are European leaders in their artistic fields and attract 2 million spectators every summer, The Bridge welcomes startups of the digital economy on two innovative projects.

A unique thematic accelerator in Europe, dedicated to new digital applications for Culture, cultural content, cultural events, tourism and mobility, welcoming startups for sessions of two months of intensive acceleration. It accompanies the seed stage projects for their prototyping and analysis of their business model. It accompanies their first funding from private investors and BPI France. It is part of an international network of 14 single accelerators in San Francisco, Berlin, London, Paris, Abidjan, Bangalore, Tel Aviv, … allowing deployment and accelerated global test solutions.
